Dollywood's Babes in Toyland Show Headlines Park's Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival

11/03/2006
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.—Wrapped in more than 3 million holiday lights, Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas festival opens Nov. 4, headlined by the park’s new holiday show Dollywood’s Babes in Toyland.

“Our new Dollywood’s Babes in Toyland show will fill every member of the family with wide-eyed wonder,” Dolly Parton said.  “Believe me, Santa and I both have a few surprises up our sleeves this Christmas!”

A never-before-seen adaptation of the family classic, Dollywood’s Babes in Toyland is the most elaborate stage show in the park’s 21-year history.  The show unfolds in a small East Tennessee village on Christmas Eve and follows “Alan” and “Jane” on an incredible adventure through Toyland.  The duo encounters a cast of characters, including “Simple Simon,” “Contrary Mary” and “Miss Muffett” as well as the dastardly Mr. Barnaby and his scheming henchmen Roderigo and Gonzorgo, both determined to keep the children from discovering Toyland’s greatest mysteries.  Along the way, the children witness amazing sights brought to life with the aid of innovative puppetry and spectacular scenery.

In what promises to be a show-stopping scene, the towering 14-foot-tall “General” leads the dramatic march of the 21 toy soldiers.  For the first time ever, a complete troupe of 21 soldiers—including 16 fully animated soldiers specially designed and created for Dollywood’s production—delights audiences as it parades across the stage in a carefully orchestrated march.  In addition, the enchanting Toy Shop toys come to life with the help of a talented group of professional acrobats.

Dollywood’s Babes in Toyland features a fully orchestrated score highlighted by lush musical arrangements and heartwarming lyrics.  The show is included with park admission and is staged in DP’s Celebrity Theatre.

Smoky Mountain Christmas entertainment also includes such shows as Christmas in the Smokies, Twas the Night Before Christmas, O’ Holy Night, An Appalachian Christmas, Carol of the Trees, Christmas with the Kingdom Heirs as well as the strolling Victorian Melodies carolers.

Rides like Thunderhead®, Tennessee Tornado and the Dollywood Express operate during the festival along with Santa’s Workshop, an activity filled attraction complete with Tinker the Talking Christmas Tree.

Special holiday dishes and endless buffets await at restaurants where menus feature familiar favorites and tasty new treats.  New offerings include prosciutto pork loin, rosemary pork prime rib, cranberry maple baked chicken, peppermint ice cream, and Tennessee mud pie.

Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas festival continues through Dec. 30; all shows are included with admission.  Operating days and hours vary. For more information, visit www.dollywood.com or call 1-800-DOLLYWOOD.
