The sweet, irresistible aroma of chocolates, candies, ice cream, taffy and more greets guests in Dollywood’s Showstreet area as the theme park welcomes the new 6,500-sq.-ft. Dollywood’s Sweet Shoppe which includes an ice cream parlor, candy shop and taffy kitchen.
“Our new Dollywood Sweet Shoppe offers a taste-tempting variety of treats sure to satisfy any sweet tooth, along with up-close demonstrations by some of our fascinating master craftsmen,” said Barbara Joines, Dollywood Vice-President and General Manager.
Guests can visit the new 100-seat Victorian-styled ice cream parlor sponsored by and featuring a variety of Edy’s® Ice Cream. Selections include hand-dipped ice cream served in fresh-baked waffle cones, milkshakes, Coca-Cola® and Barq’s root beer floats and family-sized “build your own” sundaes. More than 70 toppings are available at the “ultimate topping bar,” where everything from sprinkles to syrups allows guests to create one-of-a-kind sundaes.
Next-door in the Candy Shop, Dollywood’s master candy makers entertain as they make fudge, brittle, potato candy, caramel and candied apples and Dollywood’s own recipe for Smoky Mountain Mud. Chocolate lovers will delight in candy cases devoted solely to chocolate confections including Smoky Mountain Peanut Butter Balls, caramel pecan candies, assorted nut clusters and other homemade candies from Dollywood’s signature recipes. Additional chocolates include hand-dipped chocolate-covered strawberries, truffles, chocolate-covered raisins and more. The Candy Shop also features the Kid’s Corner where a wide variety of novelty candies are offered, including Jelly Belly® gourmet jelly beans, Pez® and Pucker Powder®. Jams and jellies as well as beautiful gift baskets can be custom-made to order.
The adjoining Taffy Kitchen features a production and demonstration area where more than 60 flavors of taffy are created by Dollywood’s candy makers. The Taffy Kitchen also is home to the magical stove, “Mr. Percy,” a floor-to-ceiling interactive candy oven. For an additional charge, children can wear an official candy maker’s coat and hat to “create” their own special souvenir bucket of candy. With the assistance of “Miss Molly,” children can press buttons, pull levers and turn cranks before a puff of smoke from “Mr. Percy” signals the completion of yet another batch of candy.
